My experience at the Global Health and Innovation Conference (GHIC) was one of a kind and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to go there. One of my favourite parts of the conference was watching the student leaders present their GHIC Innovation Semifinalist pitches. I was so intrigued and inspired by their presentation and vision to make a difference in their research topic. On Saturday, I went to a social impact lab and was able to engage with the student leaders about their projects, including the winner of the GHIC prize. I was able to watch her pitch all 3 times and learned something new each time about how feasible and how much of a difference her innovation could make on a population. It was truly amazing to see ambitious students making something of their vision and it is something I hope to be able to do in the future; make me vision to improve health a reality.
Another significant session that I won’t forget was the Leadership Interactive Workshop with Mark Roithmayr. I actually believe I got the most out of this session in comparison to all the others because he encouraged the group to really contribute to a discussion and he learned from us just as much as we were able to learn from him. He was very well spoken and I was able to really grasp the many dimensions of leadership. It was beautiful to hear everyone’s perspectives on what makes a good leader and I am will able to apply everything I learned from his session to my own life.
Overall, this conference was an incredible experience and I am so blessed to have been apart of it. GHIC or something similar is something I have the ability to strive to be apart of on an upper level in the future. Thank you for the opportunity!
