The GHIC experience was one of the best experiences I had the opportunity to be a part of. Being a first year student, I was able to expose myself to many different components of the field of health, specifically to my personal interest of managing and improving health systems. There was a great variety of sessions that were led by amazing speakers that provided insight into their passions and research. They provided many opportunities for questions and comments and engaged the audience to the best of their ability during their presentation.
One of my favorite sessions was led by the Minister of Health in Rwanda. She really inspired me to pursue my goals of transforming health systems as she demonstrated the possibilities through the success of Rwanda. She emphasized the key component of respecting culture and building modern institutions based on traditions. Rwanda is a case that will continue to motivate me in my work because it is an example of global health progress. As health care providers, I think it was crucial to set a goal and drive yourself with others to achieve this goal. The conference really re-energized me to contribute to the world and aim to do greater things. Having the privilege to interact like-minded individuals created an environment where I was always critically thinking and involved. There was a very dynamic and comfortable environment that helped me step out of my comfort zone. In addition to the speakers, the participants played a huge role in enhancing my understanding on the topics. The audience asked very specific questions that were beyond the surface of the topic which inspired me to think outside the box at all times.
Overall, this conference was a weekend of inspiration, innovation, and an unforgettable experience. I would like to thank HSSA for this amazing opportunity and the student opportunity fund for making this opportunity a reality for students. I definitely look forward to sharing my experiences with other students, especially first year students, and hopefully they will be as equally as inspired and motivated as I am.
I really hope this opportunity is still available next year for first and second year students. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to be eligible for this great opportunity based on the positive impact it had on me.
